Pimps-4-Tots Toy Drive at Chemically Imbalanced Comedy

Monday, November 21st, 2011

Chemically Imbalanced Comedy and Bucky’s Planet Productions is proud to announce that CIC’s long running show Pimprov will be collecting non-violent toys this holiday season for the Neopolitan Lighthouse; a domestic abuse shelter located in Chicago. For the past 3 years Pimprov has taken up donations for various battered women shelters at their shows, and last year started the Pimps-4-Tots toy drive. Statistics show that 3 million children a year are affected by domestic violence. This is our way to help the children have fun during the holiday season.

Starting Friday November 25th and continuing the entire month of December we will be offering $3 off admission with a new unwrapped non-violent toy. Last year Pimprov’s toy drive brightened the Christmas of 13 different children housed in a shelter. $3 off discount per person is not good with any other offer and is only valid on full price ticket purchase.

Hailed by critics and audiences alike, Pimprov is one of the most original and hilarious unscripted shows in town! Yes… it’s Pimps that improvise. It’s that simple.

Pimps Vs Zombies

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

See what happens when pimps on their way to a Playas Ball run out of gas right in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. It’s rumored that a legendary Mac has magical pimp items stowed away in a hideout. I wonder if they’ll find it.

Pimps vs Zombies is from the comedic minds of the nationally known improv group Pimprov. Who else would give you hot zombies, a 1970 Buick Electra, Gorilla Slap Gauntlets, The Scepter of Pimpitude, The Bottomless cup of Cognac and a Bat.

You can see them perform LIVE every Friday night at 10:30pm at CIC!

Book of Liz Highly Recommended

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

The Chicago Reader Highly Recommends The Book of Liz:

The Sedaris siblings’ off-kilter script unleashes its weirdness at a blazing pace, but Angie McMahon’s superb cast parlays the inanity into tight, hilarious scenes and endearingly eccentric characters. Sarah Rose Graber plays the unlikely heroine with pinched, quirky charm.

Review of Book of Liz

Monday, September 13th, 2010

Four stars says ChicagoTheaterBlog:

Graber deserves all the praise she can get for her wide-eyed portrayal of Liz. She is unwavering in her commitment to the character’s little tics, from her squeaky voice to her “Gosh darn” facial expressions. Equally worthy of praise is her supporting cast, including Kash, who did double duty by filling in for Bryan Beckwith, the actor slated to play restaurant manager Duncan. As Brother Brightbee, Kash’s hyperbolized passive aggression toward Liz makes for some tense comedy. Adam El-Sharkawi, too, does an outstanding job as Reverend Tollhouse, the Squeamish community’s no-nonsense leader. In one of the play’s only dramatic scenes, Liz confronts the Reverend about his workhorse ways. Here, Graber and El-Sharkawi forge a genuinely touching connection in the midst of the otherwise hair-brained comedy.

Angie McMahon’s direction is resourceful. Chemically Imbalanced Comedy’s space is tight—incredibly tight. And yet she manages to swiftly transform the stage from a parish to a restaurant to a doctor’s office without letting the momentum of the play slow for a moment.

A Message from Sean

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

My name is Sean Keith and I’ve been a company member at CIC for over two years and I perform with the house team, Counter-Productive Lover. This Sunday, I will be participating in the Kidney Walk in Milwaukee. It’s an event to raise money for The National Kidney Foundation. This organization is very close to me. Since I was 15, I’ve had a kidney disease that has eventually caused my kidneys to fail late last year. But back in February, I was grateful to be the recipient of a kidney from my cousin, Julie. Because of her, I’m able to enjoy life. The cost for Julie’s portion of the procedure cost over $40,000. That’s a step price and impossible to pay. However, The National Kidney Foundation took care of all of her cost. If you have a couple of bucks and are feeling generous, please click on the Kidney Walk link.
