Or Your Banned from CIC…
By Angie McMahon
We have a bit of a running joke round here. Don’t piss Ang off cause she will ban you. I have a short list of people in my head that I don’t want to see at our shows. Some of whom I have actually shared out loud some I have not. It is usually because the person has done something more than once to make me not want them to be performing in any capacity with us. This person usually is very aware of it, and in general it isn’t a secret. So if you are reading this thinking; “Wonder if I’m banned?” most likely the answer is no. If you have to ask that your not.
And really no one is BANNED. This is just a little OCD thing I have. With all that pre qualifier out of the way.
TJ Miller recently hit is big with the ABC Hit Sitcom Carpoolers. He was at one point banned from CIC. He is well aware of this. He showed up late twice to host our showcase and twice didn’t show up at all (no call no show). Our first and second years of Snubfest he got booked to perform and backed out a few weeks before the fest. So he knew, and was well well aware that he was on my shit list. This past year of Snubfest TJ wrote me an email and said he would really like to participate. He understands how upset I am with him but he is going to make it a priority and make sure his schedules is clear to do it. He promised up and down he wouldn’t cancel on me. I called him to have a phone conversation. “TJ, this is it. This is my absolute last straw. If you cancel on me you are dead to me. You understand?” I say in my best Brando voice. “I get it Ang, its all good” he says in his best, I don’t know, Surfer voice.
To make it up to me he not only did his Stand up for Snubfest but also did a two man Improv show in our contest (that won the LA Improv Festival Slot btw) and somewhat became the poster child of Snubfest this past year, doing interviews for CLTV and TimeOut Chicago.
So TJ Miller, once banned…back in the club…now on TV.
The Fella he did his two person Improv set with was Thomas Middleditch, someone coming into his own fame. Also someone who has never performed with CIC beyond Snubfest so has never had the opportunity to be banned (we will work on it for this coming season).
Recently Thomas hit huge internet fame when a parody of McDonalds commercials hit the IO website and was picked up to be a real ad. Now all kinds of folks are doing knock offs of the Video.
So in an effort to ride out these two fella’s fame and some how tie it back to CIC (as so many others have done as well) Chemically Imbalanced Comedy’s Blog presents to you the Snubfest Performance of TJ Miller (of ABC’s Hit Show Carpoolers) and Thomas Middleditch (of the McDonalds Nuggets Rap Youtube Fame) taped by Comedynet.com
Artistic Associate Gillian Belinger performs with her Sketch Comedy Group “Sexy Face” at Snubfest 2007.
On Thursday Oct 4th Angie McMahon will be performing her one women show “Judy in Disguise with Glasses” at the Sage Theater in Times Square as part of the New York Underground Comedy Festival. Here is a sneak peek at some scenes from the show:

I am having a hard time finding a blog for today so I am gonna do a bit of business.
The following is how you can Sponsor Snubfest.
Description and history of the event or activity to be sponsored.
Mission:
Chemically Imbalanced Comedy (CIC) is an organization of artists from the Chicago area and beyond, dedicated to providing performance opportunities for comedic artists. CIC supports the vision of talented writers, directors and performers, and is committed to producing new and previously produced works while also providing a venue for stand-up and improvisational comedy. Through the diversification of our projects and the cross-pollination of artists across multiple disciplines, we look to expand the horizons of our audiences and educate them in the various comedic styles.
History:
For seven years CIC has been a leader in the underground movement to cultivate Chicago comedy for the masses, creating a unique performance environment that includes every aspect of comedy. Throughout that time our weekly showcase has highlighted sketch, improvisation and stand-up comedy giving our audience the opportunity to experience multiple forms of comedy in one evening. The showcase also provides artists with a professional environment in which to perform that includes a production staff and promotions at no cost to the artist. CIC also produces and performs multiple comedic plays per season, both original and previously produced
It is this mixture of the various forms of comedy that makes CIC unique. Gaps between the various styles of comedy are bridged for performer and audience member alike. Performers from within CIC’s ranks and from the community at large have the rare opportunity to stretch their talents across multiple forms of entertainment in a nurturing environment while audiences are challenged to expand their horizons and educated in forms of comedy they may be less familiar with.
Event:
As part of our mission to create performance opportunities we initiated Snubfest, a new breed of comedy festival held in Chicago. In January 2008 the fourth annual Snubfest will continue to provide a venue for artists who have been rejected from other festivals. Sketch, improvisation and stand-up performers also have the chance to compete for performance slots in major comedy festivals throughout the country. Giving an entrance opportunity to up and coming artists who have talent but have not been able to connect with these larger institutions. This festival also empowers the performers to believe in their abilities and push forward to achieve their goals in comedy.
CIC partnered with New York Underground Comedy Festival, LA Improv Festival, Twincites Improv Festival, Phoenix Improv Festival, and Lowell Comedy Festival to provide performance opportunities in our annual Snubfest comedy festival. We also partnered with online content provider ComedyNet.com to produce and release performance clips from the festival on their website, providing greater exposure for participating artists. Press from TimeOut Chicago and the Chicago Reader participated in Snubfest and representatives from Zanies Comedy Club, The Improv Comedy Club and Lincoln Lodge scouted talent at the event, giving access to publications and talent bookers that many of the performers would not have had otherwise.

Skitzobill has recently been released from a mental hospital. He most certainly has not been cured. (On that, everyone is in agreement!) Watch his performance at Snubfest.
The finest schizophrenic comedian working today. Skitzobill is a joke machine, spitting out punchlines at the speed of, well, schizophrenia. When he’s not wowing crowds in his native Cleveland, Skitzobill can be heard on the Opie & Anthony show and at festivals like Snubfest, where we caught his act. Skitzo spends his night doing comedy and his days stalking people. As he says on the back of one of his t-shirts “My love for you is stronger than any restraining order.”
You need to watch him, because chances are, he’s watching you.
The Unconventionally Handsome Tony Sam talks like a Pirate, angers Cheez-Whiz, and challenges the Burger King to a Duel at Snubfest.
Tony Sam is a Comedian, a Writer, a Producer, and a Terrific Lover. That’s right, Tony is a Chicago comedian who has quickly become recognized as one of the city’s most creative and funniest performers. (Just ask him.) Hailing originally from the Chicagoland area, he lived in south Florida while going to college, and spent half a year living in the Cayman Islands working as the curator of a small aquarium. He returned to Florida and realized his life dream one morning on a beach while working with sea turtles. It did not involve sea turtles. Shortly after, he quit his job, loaded up his pick-up truck and decided to come back home to Chicago and pursue his dream. Tony has wanted nothing more in this life, than the opportunity to make people laugh. Well, a laser arm or a Genie would be pretty cool too. I mean… right? Anywho…
“Tony combines his unique life experiences with his creative imagination, and playful nature that not only endears him to the audience but delivers huge laughs as well. He delivers his jokes and comical stories in his own crazy way, with subject matter ranging from his eccentric grandmother to his fear of bees. Quirky and extremely likeable, his childlike charm will quickly get you on his side, and his material will make you want to stay there permanently. “
