Chicago Reader Reviews Judy

Judy In Disguise with Glasses
In her one-women show Angie McMahon plays Judy McClure, a nerdy, lisping self-help writer lecturing at a conference for “Young Authors With Low Self-Esteem”. McMahon undisguises Judy with flashbacks to low moments, like the time Judy embarrassed herself at a junior high formal with an awkward (and hilarious) seduction dance to Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” Along the way McMahon boldy interacts with the crowd; at the performance I saw she applauded an audience member for his bravery in admitting he’d done cocaine, then came back to him after a scene about loneliness, asking concernedly, “Does that look familiar, cokehead?” -Ryan Hubbard
